So, like me, you’re in the market for a new gaming laptop. But you don’t just want any gaming laptop; you want a great one. You want the best bang for your buck. Well, you’re in luck my friend, because I’m going to share my research with you. I’m sure, in this list, you’ll find the laptop you want to buy!

Of course, the first thing you should consider is your GPU. You cannot replace this! What you buy is what you’re stuck with. Trust me, you’re better off spending a bit more for a gaming laptop that you won’t regret buying. This list only has laptops with the newest NVIDIA GTX GPUs. The second thing you should consider is your CPU. Intel’s 6th generation (Skylake) are just fine to play any game you’re wanting, however, the seventh generation (Kaby Lake) are even better. After that I consider storage. You do want SSD for the faster download and load times. However, one of the most important things to consider is your keyboard. Please, please, please attempt to try out the laptop keyboards at a brick and mortar store before you order it online at Amazon! You will want and need your keyboard to be comfortable, and this is a somewhat personal thing.

1. Alienware 17 R4

Alienware 17 R4 Gaming Laptop

One of the best gaming laptop from Alienware (Buy From Amazon)

My top pick for must buy gaming laptops is definitely the Alienware 17 R4. As the name suggests this is a 17-inch laptop, and weighs in at a whopping 18 pounds! Yes, this does affect the portability of the laptop, but in most cases the larger the system the better it is. This beauty sports the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 with 8GB of video memory, and the Intel Core i7-6700HQ (quad-core). It has a total of 1.25TB of storage (256GB are SSD), and 16GB of RAM. The screen is full HD. Another great point is that this features Tobii IR Eye-Tracking, a feature that lets your computer intuitively know what you’re about to do based on where you are looking. At the time of this writing, the Alienware 17 R4 has a 5-star rating!

2. MSI GS63 Stealth Pro

MSI GS63 Stealth Pro (Buy from Amazon)

This is another 5-star rated gaming laptop. It’s 15.6 inches, and 9.5 pounds. Although the GPU in the Alienware 17 above is slightly better than the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, however, this is still one of the new, best GPUs out now. The MSI GS63 Stealth Pro has the new seventh generation Intel Core i7-7700HQ. It has 16GB of RAM and 2TB of storage, not including the 256 of SSD. This gaming laptop is slim and sleek design, which is something that you don’t always see in the powerful gaming laptops. This makes portability rating higher in spite of its heavy weight. It has a full color backlit keyboard, which some gamers really love. A really awesome thing about this laptop is that it’s VR ready! It comes with Dragon Center, an all-new program that will set your laptop up for the optimal settings for VR in just one click.

3. Alienware 13 R3

This computer has just released in January so it’s the latest on our 2017. I just could not pass this beauty up. The Alienware 13 R3 is high up on this list due to its portability and great specs. It is 13.3 inches and 5.8 pounds, and if you’re looking for a very portable yet powerful gaming laptop, you might want to hold out a little while longer for this little beauty. This is the first VR laptop this small in the world. This laptop has the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 GPU, and the new seventh generation Intel Core i7-7700HQ. It has 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage. This gaming laptop also has the new Alienware TactX keyboard. This enables over 80 key commands per minute! The Alienware 13 R3 packs a huge punch for something as small as this is. I have no doubt this will be a favorite for many gamers!

4. Asus ROG Strix GL502

Here is another 15.6 inch gaming laptop, this one weighing less at 4.9 pounds. It’s rated highly at 4 out of 5 stars on Amazon, although you can find a slightly higher rating on other sites. This is another gaming laptop with the NVDIA GTX 1060 and the seventh generation Intel Core i7-7700HQ. This sweet little thing has just a little less storage than the first two on this list, coming in with 1TB of HDD and 128GB of SSD. This is my second favorite on this list, due to its portability and sleek design. A great thing about the ROG Strix GL502VM is that it has G-SYNC, which means that the frames rates are synchronized so there is minimal lag. It’s also VR ready, if that is something you are wanting to get into!

5. Razer Blade Pro 17inch Gaming Laptop

The Razer Blade Pro 17.3 inches and 7.8 pounds. This gaming laptop has the best GPU we’ve seen so far with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080. It has the Intel Core i7 6700HQ, which is sixth generation, however, there have been reports that this brand as well as the Microsoft Surface won’t be using the new seventh generation. There are 32GB of RAM, as well as up to 2TB SSD storage. This is a great laptop for gaming and streaming. The screen is 4K UHD—the first of its kind on this list, and the keyboard has Anti-Ghosting by Razer Chroma. You can personalize this keyboard, which is great for any gamer. You definitely are getting what you pay for in this ultimate gaming laptop.

6. The Razer Blade 14inch HD Gaming Laptop

The Razer Blade is smaller than the Razer Blade Pro, and while it is still a great gaming laptop it isn’t quite as awesome as the latter. The GPU in this one is the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, so the least powerful of the new series. It does have the Intel Core i7-6700HQ, the same as the Razer Blade Pro. This laptop is 14 inches and 4.25 pounds. The screen is HD instead of the 4K UHD of the larger version. However, it is much more portable than the Razer Blade Pro. This gaming laptop would be easy to carry around without backaches! It does have the same Anti-Ghosting keyboard by Razer Chroma, and like the above, can create macros, be remapped, and personalized.

7. Gigabyte Aero 14

The Gigabyte Aero 14 is a 14” gaming laptop coming in at 4.19 pounds, and sports a QHD screen. Like many of the above, it has 16GB of RAM, and the sixth generation Intel Core i7-6700HQ with 512GB of SSD. It has the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060. It comes in three different colors—black, orange, and green—so you can pick the one that suits your style best. This is another VR ready device, and it also NVIDIA Ansel, which is a new ability to take screenshots and edit them. The Gigabyte Aero 14 also has a great battery life. This gaming laptop also has XSplit Gamecaster + Broadcaster. This allows you to easily live stream on your laptop. It has a keyboard with individual macro keys, and a large battery life.

8. HP Omen 17

The HP Omen 17 is yet another 17.3 inch 7 pound 4K UHD gaming laptop. This is the most customizable of the laptops on this list. You have the option to choose storage, RAM, and GPU; however, the 12GB RAM only has the options for 1TB storage and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965 GPU. Now you can choose how much SSD you want: 1TB, 512GB, and 256GB. Now, the higher two RAM options—16 GB and 32 GB—give you the ability to choose which GPU you want of the newest series: the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or the more powerful NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070. Storage for this gaming laptop ranges from 1 to 2TB of HDD storage and your choice of 128 to 512GB of SSD. All options have the same CPU, the Intel Core i7-6700HQ. With all these options, you can easily get the kind of gaming laptop you’re looking for, and customized to be as powerful as you want.

9. Origin Eon 17-SLX

The Origin Eon 17-SLX is a 17.3 inch, 10.5 pound laptop. It has a sixth generation Intel Core i7-6700HK CPU with 16GB of RAM. It also has NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 with G-Sync. It has a 250GB SSD in addition to the 1TB of HDD storage. It has a full HD screen. Keep in mind, you do sacrifice portability with this gaming laptop just due to its size. The design isn’t the most attractive. It’s bulky and plain, but this is something that you might be willing to look past for a great internal set up. This laptop has not yet been rated on Amazon, however, it does have good specs and is definitely a powerful gaming laptop you won’t regret buying.

10. Acer Predator 17 X Gaming Laptop

The Acer Predator 17x is another 17.3 inch gaming laptop. This gaming laptop boasts performance like a desktop. It has an 4K UHD screen, and is another of the laptops on this list with G-Sync. It has 32GB of RAM, which is the highest on this list so far. It has the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980, which isn’t the best on this list; however, it is not a mobile version. You do not want a mobile version; you want the full just-like-the-desktop version. It also has the sixth generation Intel Core i7-6820HK CPU. There is 1TB of storage with an additional 512GB SSD. The biggest down point with this gaming laptop is the battery life. The developer themselves state that it has a 3 hour battery life, so while this is a very powerful laptop, it does not have the best portability. Due to this flaw that the Acer Predator 17x is the second to last on my list.

11. Alienware 15 4K UHD Touchscreen Gaming Laptop

This 15.6 inch gaming laptop comes in at 7 pounds, and has a 4K UHD screen. To top it off, it’s also a touch screen! It has sixth generation Intel Core i7-6700HQ with 1.25TB—and again, like the aforementioned Alienware 17 R4, 256GB are SSD. It also has 16GB of RAM. The design is great, like all Alienware computers. It’s highly rated, so there is tons of proof from other gamers that lets you know that you won’t regret buying it. The major downside to this laptop is that this Alienware doesn’t have the newest GPU, which is the sole reason it’s at the bottom of my list. Even so, other gamers have rated it to play current games at max settings with no problems.

So now we’ve covered eleven different laptops that are powerful and ready to face your gaming challenge. A trend I’ve noticed—and I’m sure you have too in your search—is that the bigger the laptop, the better gaming laptop it is. Of course, we all know that the best gaming laptop is a desktop, especially if you’re looking for the best bang for your buck. However, you may want or need portability like I do. To get the best gaming laptop you do sacrifice a small degree of that portability in most cases. Remember though, you want to keep the GPU in the forefront of your mind. All on this list have a good enough CPU to play any game currently on the market, but the graphics card is the key. It is the heart of your computer. You’ll want the best one for your needs. As long as you keep those two things in mind, you’ll be happy with the gaming laptop you choose. I’m sure you’ll find that this list has a powerful gaming laptop that you can’t regret buying.
